Outdoor Adventures with the Marshall Family

The Marshall Children Young Docent Program returns with an all new Spring Theme: Outdoor Adventures with the Marshall Family. 

Take a journey back in time to discover what life was like for families living at the Glebe during the Revolutionary War era! By joining our Marshall Children Young Docent Program, you'll explore history and gain valuable skills.

 

2025 Spring Session Dates: 

 March 6 & 20, April 3 & 24, May 8 & 22.

 

Explore the art of guiding visitors through the Glebe House using captivating stories and historical insights. Participate in interactive workshops featuring hands-on activities such as candle making, quill writing, and open-hearth cooking to immerse yourself in colonial life. Discover traditional crafts and create colonial-inspired pieces. Enjoy enriching museum visits to expand your understanding of the region's history. Experience the beauty of the Gertrude Jekyll Garden, while learning about its designer and the thriving plants within it.


Engaging Classes:

  • The First Harvest - Maple Sap: Discover the process of tapping maple trees and producing maple syrup, a vital source of sustenance for colonial families.

  • Colonial Containers and Basket Making: Learn how containers and baskets were crafted using natural materials and traditional techniques.

  • Farm Life in the 18th Century: Immerse yourself in the everyday tasks and duties of a colonial farm to gain a deeper insight into the agricultural methods of that time.

  • The Gertrude Jekyll Garden at the Glebe House: Uncover the history and design principles behind the Gertrude Jekyll Garden, a renowned example of Arts and Crafts garden design.

  • Art, Poetry, and the Garden: Explore the connections between art, poetry, and nature, drawing inspiration from the garden's beauty.

  • The Three Sisters Garden: Learn about the traditional Native American agricultural practice of interplanting corn, beans, and squash, known as the "Three Sisters."



    The program is open to interested children ages 6 and up, with sessions available in the Fall & Spring. Meetings are held on select Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:30 pm.


Marshall Program Fee: Spring Session 2025

$125 Members  /  $150 Non-members

Glebe House Museum Family Membership: $60.00

Museum membership entitles you to free admission to the museum & garden, discounts to select museum events & programs, invitations to members-only events, a 10% discount in the museum gift shop, summer camp discounts, and opportunities to be a part of The Glebe House Museum & The Gertrude Jekyll Garden through volunteering.
